I am dearly hoping that Woody Allen has come to his Renaissance, if Match Point is any indicator as to what we can expect from the veteran writer-director. A film that had nothing to do with New York, Match Point was not only a masterpiece, it was one of the strongest films of Woody Allen's long career as a filmmaker.
From Dark Horizons, it appears that his next film, which was to take place in Paris, will not enter production due to budgetary issues. Instead, Allen will be filming in London once again, and is hoping to make a film in Barcelona next year with international and Spanish actors.
Europe, and France in particular, has long had a tremendous admiration for Woody Allen's films, and it is doubly-pleasing that he is not just making films here, but making very good ones! Woody Allen has long inspired European audiences with his films, and it is only fair that Europe provide some inspiration to him as well.
Welcome to Europe, Mr. Allen.
