Wong Kar Wai's Blueberry Gets Picked!

The Cannes Film Festival jury president's next film has already begun gathering international distributors, before filming has even begun! Wong Kar Wai's (2046, In the Mood for Love) My Blueberry Nights, his first English-language film, is described as a "hip romantic tale," and wil star musician Norah Jones, as well as Rachel Weisz, Natalie Portman, and Jude Law.

The amazing cinematographer Darius Khondji (Se7en, Delicatessen) will be working with Wong Kar Wai for the first time, and I am curious to see what these two will accomplish in terms of visuals.

From Hollywood Reporter:

Jones will play a young woman who travels across America to find answers to her questions about the true meaning of love, meeting a series of offbeat characters along the way.

For those who are unfamiliar with Wong Kar Wai's films, I can enthusiastically recommend 2046, and though it is a sort of sequel to In the Mood for Love, you need not have watched the latter film to understand the former. 2046 is one of the most beautiful and stunning films that I have seen in the past few years, and it tells a very fascinating (and a little dark) love story!

Filming of My Blueberry Nights is expected to begin some time during the summer, and distribution deals have already been made for "Germany's Prokino, Asmik Ace in Japan, Bim in Italy, Central Partnership for Russia, Triangel for Scandinavia and EEAP for Eastern European territories."

Wong Kar Wai's next project after this film will be a thriller entitled  Lady from Shanghai, which will feature Nicole Kidman in a starring role.
