This Sounds Like It Might Be Gay

I had a friend in New York who dragged me to a leather club once.  A gay leather club.  In the gay community, as I understand it, leather fetishism is an unusual thing.  At this particular club, the real fetish was how people looked in the leather, rather than how they performed in the leather.  In other words, the only S&M was Standing and Modeling.  Which is frankly really boring.  Now I know there are lots of great leather dominants out there who strap on their chaps and really know how to tan a hide, but for the most part it seems that the interest in leather is a shallow one.  The most disquieting thing about my evening out was that all these tough looking, hairy chested, leather bound guys spent the evening talking about Sex in the City, real estate, and guacamole recipes.  True story.

Now we have a documentary about this exciting lifestyle.  Here Films has acquired the rights to a new documentary about nine men's quest to be crowned Mr. Los Angeles Leather.  The documentary is creatively entitled Mr. Leather.  I recognize, that the contest is more geared toward how the contestants look, but wouldn't it be a more fascinating documentary seeing how these guys not only prepare for their performances, but actually show them engaging in some truly subversive and sadistic activity?  Otherwise, I can't imagine this documentary being much more than a beauty contest with really non-beautiful people.

The documentary is directed by Jason Garret, who is making his debut on this film, and I am sure his domineering mom is either really proud or doesn't know about the docu.  The film will also feature interviews and commentaries about leather fetishism from doctors, psychologists and Samantha's dad.

By the way, you can read more about Mr. Los Angles Leather by clicking here (not safe for work unless you work at The Faultline).  Also... that picture up there?  Those are real contestants for the contest.  Click on it to see them in all their fruity glory.
