The Man Who Would be Ponch

So the big news this weekend was that "Ponch and Jon" from CHiPs, those stalwart heroes from that magical era of late-70s early-80s NBC TV, home of BJ and the Bear, Sheriff Lobo, Buck Rogers, and Quincy M.E., will be riding the highway patrol again in a feature film version starring Wilmer Valderrama as Ponch and, according to Latino Review recently, Chris Evans as Jon.

Ponch of course, is the role that Valderrama (most likely known to audiences as "Fez" on TV's That 70s Show) was born to play.  Let's be real... Erik Estrada may be a joke now, but back then?  OMG I used to DIE to watch him as "Ponch" on TV... he was the hottiest of the hotties!  Maybe it was the uniform... I don't know.  Hmm... yes... looking back on things, it MUST have been the uniform.

So yeah, Valderamma's parents must have taken one look at him and thought "meal ticket!!" and signed him up for acting right away... carefully grooming him into the Ponch personna.  Finally, he will fulfill his destiny.

As far as Chris Evans goes... meh.  Let's be honest... they could have gotten anyone to play Jon.  CHiPs is all about Ponch... did anyone ever tune in saying "I wonder what JON will do tonight!"  Did anyone even know that he was on the show?  I'm sure Larry Wilcox used to get that all the time...

"I play Jon on TV's CHiPs."

"You mean that show with Ponch?"

"Yes... I play his partner, 'Jon'."

"Ponch has a partner?"

So anyway, like I said, they could have gotten anyone to play Jon... it doesn't really matter.  Come to think of it... they really blew it on the Jon casting.  I think they should have gotten Jason Hervey.  Come on... you be the judge.  Tell me if Hervey's not right on the money:
