Okay, so did you know there is a show on that has a couple of really hot guys, and like, ALL THEY DO is travel around in some souped up Lincoln or something and fight demons? The show is called Supernatural, and really I haven't heard that much about it. Certainly none of the squad have filled me in on this show, which stars handsome but evil Jensen Ackles who was Lana's weirdo boyfriend on Smallville last year. It also stars some guy named Jeremy Padelecki.
So this show has two things going for it. First, let me repeat something here. THESE GUYS ARE HOT. I never really cottoned to Jensen Ackles on Smallville because he turned out to be weird and evil, but in this show he plays one of two brothers who are on a mission trip to rid the world of evil demons and the like. I have only seen a couple of episodes, but apparently something nasty happened with their mom? And now their dad has gone off on his own and the brothers don't know where the heck he is. So I guess the brothers aren't just looking for demons. They are also looking for their daddy and whatever weirded out thing did something to their mom. Jeremy Padelecki plays the other brother. And he's also extremely hot. And he's the sensitive one.
So the second reason you might want to check out this show is that I know a lot of people out there are X-Files fans. And when I was in junior high I used to watch it some with my friend Jeff. He loved showing me stuff that would freak me out. Well Supernatural is kind of like X-Files with better clothes and hair. Oh and this show doesn't have that whole "WHY WON'T SCULLY BELIEVE ME?" thing going on.
Anyway, the reason I bring this up now is because last week they had a show of Supernatural and it was called "The Benders". Basically the plot is as follows: Jensen and Jeremy are in some dive bar in a town with an extremely high missing persons rate. Well Jeremy wanders outside and is himself abducted by whatever is causing the high missing persons thing. So Jensen has to team up with some female police woman to find out what is causing the abductions.
What makes this different from most episodes is that you find out pretty early on that there is nothing supernatural about the bad guys in this one. It turns out that the bad guys are kind of like my cousin and her family in Dime Box, TX. They are really trashy, have questionable plumbing and they like to hunt people for sport.
This episode immediately reminded me of an old X-Files episode about these inbred skanks who had children with their mom who they kept under their bed. I just called a highly authoritative source and he informed me the episode was called "Home". Now that episode was about the scariest X-Files episode I ever did see and this episode of Supernatural delivered some good scares itself. Among them a seemingly innocent little girl who likes to throw knives and scream for her daddy (hey cousin Marny!) AND a scene where Pa Inbred threatens Jensen Ackles' eyes with a hot fire poker. FRIGHT. NING!
The show does a good job of laying on the atmosphere. Like X-Files, it was shot up around Canada and so it has that whole Klondike thing going on. The writing on the episode is pretty sharp too. I liked the chemisty between the brothers. You get a real sense that these two care for each other even when they don't always see eye to eye. I am not sure how well the show is doing, but I would encourage you to watch it. TV can always use more faces like Jeremy Padelecki. Perhaps if there are more shows with people like him, there will be less with that nasty red-head from CSI: Miami. Ugh. He is so gross.
