Steve Martin to do more Pink Panthers

Dark Horizons is reporting that Steve Martin is planning on doing at least two more Pink Panther movies.

This has really upset my father.

My dad is like, this huge Steve Martin fan.  He should be a Steve Martin archivist.  He has everything... Seriously, there's this album called The Steve Martin Brothers where one side is all banjo.

Anyway, a couple years ago, there was an ad for Cheaper By The Dozen on tv, and I groaned, "uhh, this guy is so lame".

My dad spent the following week educating me in Steve Martin.  Films, books, magazine articles... That week my father passed the torch.

I think that Steve Martin is the greatest comedian who ever lived.

Notice the emphasis on "is".

Something happened to Steve, somewhere around Parenthood... He started doing movies... for the money.

That's what I think it is.  I honestly don't believe that a man of his reported IQ actually thinks that Bringing Down the House is a good film.  He did it for the money.

For those of you who question whether or not he's still got it, I point you to Shopgirl.

Of course, that will cause you to respond with The Pink Panther.

I didn't think it was as bad as everyone says.  I think it had it's moments.  He was trying to recapture some of his earlier work... But he failed.  Now, why he thought he could resurrect this cursed film franchise is beyond me... He probably did it for the money... But he probably thought he could pull it off.  Why else would he have a credit on the script?

I dunno.  There is hope in these sequels... Rawson Marshall Thurber (Dodgeball) is set to direct, instead of the director of the first film, Shawn Levy (Cheaper by the Dozen).

And Rachel Stevens (S CLUB 7) is rumored to be in the cast... Which is fantastic... I mean, if you're going to go for a young attractive girl, Rachel is it... You know, besides me... (Steve, call me)

This little news piece has turned into a semi-rant... I apologize.  Remember... It wasn't too long ago that Steve did Bowfinger.  He's not lost it, he's not senile... He just does certain projects for the money.

Let's hope he does this one, it's because he wants to fix the mistakes of the first one.  Maybe he wants to prove to all of us that he can do this franchise justice.

Or maybe it's for the money.

Either way, if you can't deal with it, remember.  Comedy isn't pretty.

Eddie Murphy and Bill Murray too

Eddie Murphy was once the most dangerous man in Hollywood, now he makes Will Smith look cutting edge. Bill Murray transformed his career from an amazing improv comic to Mr. Indie while feasting on a steady diet of crap (i.e. Garfield) to pay the bills.

Next thing you know Will Ferrell is going to do kiddie soccer films. Oh wait.

that soccer one was horrible...

they advertised that thing all wrong. mike ditka should have actually had the headlining credit. he had almost as big a role and had more laughable moments in it than will ferrell.

lifestyles of the rich and famous

what i don't understand is: sure, do it for the money, but how much money do you need exactly? what kind of lifestyle are you maintaining that requires you to make THAT much money? Bill Murray, Steve Martin, Eddie Murphy, they don't strike me as the coke & hooker types.

Well, Eddie Murphy...

i heard that back in the day...

steve martin was all about the coke and hookers... maybe he needs to return to that lifestyle for the new pink panther movie... its kinda like how your favorite bands are good...then they get clean and put out an album and it sux.

Steeeeeeeeeeve Martin.

I'm not sure that he does these films 100% for the money. But it's a big part of it. It's also the only things being offered to him right now. It's not just about the money, it's also about keeping his face out there. These movies are big studio projects, and he wants to keep working. I'm sure when he reads the scripts, there is a funnier movie playing in his head as well, than what ends up on the screen. I heard Pink Panther wasn't that bad, but I couldn't bring myself to see it based on those trailers, and my love for both Martin and the original Panther films. Shopgirl was amazing, and if he keeps cashing in the paychecks so every once in a while he can do a movie like that, that's fine by me. I'd love to see him do another "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" type flick... but I don't think anyone out there is writing those kinds of movies right now. It's either family comedy, or gross out comedy right now. Too bad really.

Also... Candy

I think John Candy must have been secretly writing jokes, scripts and telling all these guys what to do and how to be funny. Notice after Candy died, all those guys of that era kind'a went with him ??Man, I miss John Candy.
