Starship "Halo"?

I do not know anything about computer games, and usually do not have much interest in crazy action films because they make me dizzy. So this is why I didn't really care when I saw this announcement that the director for the film adaptation of Halo, which is a game where you shoot thousands of alien creatures, was going to be Neil Blomkamp.

And then I watched his short film, Alive in Joburg. Starship Troopers was a discovery I made thanks to my source of all geek things, Sofiane, and it had completely impressed me with its subtexts.

I thought Halo was somehow inspired by Starship Troopers? If Blomkamp's approach is anything similar to his Alive in Joburg, it could very well be not only one of the few action films I could enjoy, but perhaps something more as well.

I don't know who got the "scoop," but I saw this news on Twitch, so perhaps giving them some credit will earn for me some geek points!

Cool video

Thanks for that it sets my heart at ease. Starship Troopers is actually the basis for all hightech warrior suits. The book was the first of its kind in terms of that stuff so all things that followed are inspired by it. So Star Craft, Aliens, and Halo all need to thank Starship Troopers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starship_Troopers

Wow

That was really something.  Thanks for finding it Zahra!

Don't Forget Ringworld

The Master Chief suit *may* have been inspired by Starship Troopers (not the atrocious movie mind you) but the Halo from Halo is derived from Larry Niven's Ringworld. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ringworld

Starship Troopers wasn't THAT bad

Although the animated series was closer to the book than the movie, AND included the suits, which weren't in the movie.
