Obviously making their grab for the Pulitzer, TeenHollywood.com has another hardhitting piece about the travails of modern celebrities. Their target this time? Jessica Simpson. While most would consider the spunky troubadour above reproach, Simpson has somehow managed to draw the ire of the National Republican Congretional Committee. Simpson has a charity called Operation Smile, and despite sounding like it was named by a faerie made of marshmallow and rainbows, it actually seems like a noble cause. The purpose of the organization is to raise funds so that children with facial problems can receive plastic surgery so that they might lead normal lives without the added burden of deformity. The program targets children in Beverly Center in Los Angeles. Okay that was just a nasty joke. The program actually targets needy children worldside.
So what's all the fuss with the Republicans? Simpons was scheduled to meet with President George W. Bush on the same day that she was to participate in a charity funraiser for Operation Smile. Simpson opted out of meeting the President because feared meeting him at a Republican fundraiser would politicize her effort. She also feared she might cripple the president with an involuntarily kick to his danglies.
Meanwhile the NRCC expressed shock that Simpson wouldn't use every opportunity she had to lobby the President on behalf of her charity. NRCC spokesman Carl Forti said, "It's never been a problem for Bono." Really, Jessica, WWBD?
