Schneider Takes the "Fish" Bait

Back in 1997, Jake MacDonald wrote a book called Julianna and the Medicine Fish, about a young girl who discovers a 15th-century secret in the fishing waters near estranged father's troubled fishing lodge up in Canada. My son had to read it a few years ago for school when he was in the 6th grade, and while he wasn't too keen on having to read a book about a girl, he did concede that she seemed "pretty cool" because "she knew a lot about fishing."

Deuce Bigalow, Mr. Rob Schneider, agrees... which is why he has decided to star in the film as Julianna's father, Mike, and have his brother John Schneider executive produce the film, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Now... this news has me torn... on the one hand, it was a really nice story, pro-active for young girls, which is something very important to me, dealing with a serious subject with much personal conflict for Julianna.  On ther other hand.... Rob Schneider?!?  Please oh please oh please oh please don't Deuce this one up, Rob.

I'd be willing to bet that Jenny from Canada has probably read this book, although she's in dutch with her parents right now and I haven't had a chance to IM her about it... something about her parents saying that Flixens is a "negative influence" on her or something and that she needs to focus on her schoolwork.  Summer school was a real bitch apparently.

But I digress... Production is expected to begin this week in Lake of the Woods, Manitoba.

Ugh

The premise sounded interesting as far as a family film goes, but the moment I see Rob Schneider's name attached I can almost see how this will play out.

i actually can't imagine

any role that i would think i would like to see rob schneider in... haha... i just found this quote for him on the imdb...

"People don't ask Andre Agassi, 'You know you're the No. 1 tennis player in the world ... have you thought about polo?'" - When asked if he'd ever consider a dramatic role.

Give it a Chance....

i really think that all you people are down playing this movie to turn out like one of Rob Schneiders typical comedies. My cousin Jeremy Torrie is fliming this movie in Kenora, Ontario Canada right now and i don't think by any means will it ruin the " pro-activeness" of the story for girls. Growing up in Kenora myself, I never really just looked at this book as a story about a girl trying to cope with her parents divorce, there is so much more to it. I believe if Rob Schneider has made it this far in his acting career he will easily be able to play the role of her struggling father seriously.
