Hey y'all. Just reporting in after another Smallville night, and this
time I got to watch it all to myself. Hoo. Ray. Because of the
Olympics My Name is Earl wasn't on, so Jake and his bra Tippen decided
to go out for pizza with and a couple of friends from their house. As
soon as he called, I was so relieved. Tippen is a good guy for a
total fat ass, but hearing him say "fag" every time Tom Welling is in
a scene gets old before it even happens.
Tonight's episode dealt the the Smallville introduction of DC Comics
CYBORG. If I know my comic history, Cyborg was created in the late
70s or early 80s. Victor Stone in the books was the child of
scientists who did some wacked out experiments on him to make him
smarter. Eventually in one of those freak accidents that can only
happen in comic books, Victor was at his parents lab where they were
working on cybernetic limbs for cripples and also some dimensional
hullabaloo. The dimensional hullabaloo caused some kind of muckety
muck and Victor's mom ended up dead. Victor himself was near death,
but Pa Stone decided to use the cybernetic limbs to help out his
child. Victor was pretty pee'oed at his daddy, and they didn't get
along for a long time. End Geek Out.*
So of course Smallville takes another route because, y'all know,
everything has to be related to either Clark or Lex in this world,
right? In this Victor is a high school athlete who's whole family
gets wiped out in a car accident and the good folks at
Cyberdyneawhatsit take his near dead stump of a body and make him all
pretty again. And holy heckall is he pretty. Victor escapes with the
help of his Asian doctor and immediately gets hit by a car driven by
resident ding bat Lana. Of course Victor is fine, but Lana's
involvement pulls Clark into the mix.
Well this episode was rock. solid. This season of Smallville has
been pretty dang good, but this episode has to be right near the top
not just for this season, but the show's entire run. There is a
brilliant moment in the heart of the show when Clark learns that Lex
might know about the company that created Cyborg. Clark charges into
Lex's only room and confronts him Superman style. The dialog and
acting during this scene was top notch and should really serve as a
lesson to weirdos who think this show hasn't changed since it's debut.
Clark suddenly has the confidence and maturity of Superman while Lex
on the other hand really does his based to weasel out of any
responsibility. It's wonderful and not at all like season one. So
shut it!
And remember what I said last week about Lex? Yes he's still gross.
Think about it.
This episode also featured an interesting back up story about Ma Kent
being blackmailed which was just as interesting as the lead story.
The snake-oil charm of Lionel Luthor really makes the whole subplot,
and the chemisty and Glover and O'Toole have is wicked hot.
I really like what they have been doing with the show, and this
episode not only have a great stand alone story but also showed us a
glimpse of things to come on the show.
Like I said: Rock. Solid.

*Big shout out to Jeff for filling in the blanks in my head because I
didn't remember much about Cyborg--I was never much of a Titans fan.
