Ritchie Remakes '16 Blocks'

I am not going to claim to understand the popularity of Guy Ritchie.  I have seen two of his movies.  One I loved (Snatch) and one I loathed (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels).  Early word on Revolver is pretty grim, but I will give the film a chance.  After all, Ritchie has a 50% chance of not sucking.  Well before I even get a chance to see Revolver (what is the deal with this anyway?  Is it come and gone?), Ritchie has signed to rewrite and direct the "gangster odyssey" Static for Columbia Pictures.

Static concerns a gangster who has to travel across town with the aid of his posse in order to testify against the bad bad cops that put him away.  If this sounds familiar, then perhaps you've seen Richard Donner's 16 Blocks, which opened about 4 months ago.  It was about a wrongly imprisoned gangbanger who has to travel 16 Blocks with a drunk cop in order to testify against the bad cops that put him away.

If only Hollywood would make its cannibalization of itself more entertaining.  It could be like Entertainment Tonight meets 28 Days Later... lot's of massacre, mania and bloodshed.  That would certainly be more interesting that most of the movies the studios release these days.

As with other news regarding Ritchie's career, husband Madonna has no comment.  But Hollywood Reporter has plenty to say right here.
