Batman Begins director Chris Nolan has high praise indeed for Heath Ledger as The Joker in the upcoming sequel, The Dark Knight.

In an interview with SciFiWire, he said that Ledger has "just exactly the kind of energy I needed for the character." In the weeks since the announcement of Ledger's casting, fans have been speculating how well he fits the bill in their collective mind's eye, with the Australian actor arguably coming up a bit short in terms when compared to fan favorites like, say Crispin Glover.
Fear not, says Nolan. Ledger is the one.
"Everything about the risks that that performer is willing to take are the things I need for somebody to take on that iconic figure. It's going to be a huge challenge for us to create it, and he's exactly the guy you want to be in the trenches with."
Next to Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, this will likely be one of Hollywood's most-anticipated comic-book character debuts. 2008 can't come soon enough!
