Well, it must be important if VARIETY is reporting it.
French-Canadian film, C.R.A.Z.Y. swept the Jutra's last night, taking home 15 awards. This follows a win of 11 awards at the Genies on March 13th.
Let me get you all up to speed on Canadian awards.
The Genies are English Canada's version of the Oscars, while the Jutra's are French Canada's version of the Oscars.
If you think the numbers are down for the amount of viewers for the Oscar-Oscars, just imagine how bad the numbers must be for the English-Canadian-Oscars, let alone the French-Canadian-Oscars.
Anyway, this film is winning all the awards up here, has been sold to a staggering 40 Territories...
Yet, can I see this film?
No. It's not playing in my town.
I'm not going to use this space as a rant for how un-supportive Canada is of it's own films, but let me just say this: Canada is very un-supportive of it's own films.
It will be released on DVD in English Canada next month.
Hey, doesn't director Jean-Marc Vallee kinda look like Hugh Laurie from House?
(incidentally, those are GENIES he's holding, not Jutras)
