Today Marvel Entertainment, Inc. announced further details around its eagerly awaited project based on the Marvel universe of Super Heroes. Marvel Entertainment confirmed that Cryptic Studios has been named the developer of "Marvel Universe Online," the highly anticipated massively multiplayer online (MMO) video game exclusive to Xbox 360 and Windows Vista and to be published by Microsoft Game Studios.

Cryptic Studios...

Cryptic are the people who actually developed City of Heroes, so this Marvel deal might serve as a replacement for that. Thing is, since it's Cryptic, we might end up with a Marvel game that has some of the annoying tendencies of City of Heroes, which IS an awesome game, but can be pretty tedious too.

At this point, Cryptic says they will continue supporting CoH, but why would they want two games from the same developer competing against each other?

Everyone will want to be Wolverine

This game doesn't sound interesting at all.

Lawsuit

Cryptic and Marvel settled a lawsuit a year or so ago, which I think had something to do with players being able to create Marvel likenesses in the game. DC may have been involved as well, I don't remember the details. I wonder if this game is a result of the lawsuit settlement? Either way, I doubt that players will be able to pick Marvel characters to be. My guess is that it will be just like City of Heroes as far as player creation goes, but placed within the Marvel Universe with Avengers Mansion, the Baxter Building, The Daily Bugle, etc. and Marvel characters will be the non-playable kind, there to give you your missions and training.

Even if it's EXACTLY like CoH, which I grew bored of, so help me, if it's the same game with Marvel branding... I am weak. I'll play it!
