Marvel Stamps? 'Nuff Said!

A few weeks ago Nina talked about the DC Universe stamp series from the United State Postal Service, which made many DC fans say "ooooh!" and many Marvel fans say "awwwww!"

When DC announced their stamps, Marvel said "no wait, we're gonna do stamps too!" but nobody really paid any attention.  "Put up or shut up," is the unwritten law of the geek community.

Well, Marvel has finally annouced WHICH Marvel Universe stamps they will be releasing, and they will follow the same pattern as the DC stamps, namely, character singles matched with their associated comic book covers.  The preliminary list (subject to change, mind you) from Newsarama is this:

Spider-Man Amazing Spider-Man #1
The Incredible Hulk Incredible Hulk #1
Sub-Mariner Sub-Mariner #1
The Thing Fantastic Four #3
Captain America Captain America #100
Silver Surfer Silver Surfer #1
Iron Man Iron Man #1
Elektra Daredevil #176
Wolverine X-Men #1
Spider-Woman Marvel Spotlight #32

I'll admit, I'm a bit surprised at the list.  No Thor, for example?  To be fair, DC has it easy... just throw the Justice League on there and you're done... but the Marvel Universe proves to be much richer in characters to choose from, let's be honest.

I also understand the need to pay heed to the Marvel movies, both past, present, and planned, i.e. Sub-Mariner, Silver Surfer.  You have to go with what the public is familiar with.  Which makes me all the more surprised to see Spider-Woman on the list, as opposed to one of the more familiar Marvel heroines.  I suppose Sue Storm is out, if you're going to already include The Thing and Silver Surfer from Fantastic Four mythology.  And the Scarlet Witch is probably out due to Middle America being all weird about anything even remotely pagan.  And Black Widow is out because, even though Middle America loves its guns, she's a Russkie.  But what about The Wasp?  That could help them capitalize on their Ultimate Avengers animated film series, perhaps.  Or any of the other ladies from the X-Men?  Although I guess they're trumped by Wolverine.  Hmmm....

Well, like I said, the list is subject to change. Oh, and how clever was it to use that picture of Stan Lee as Willie Lumpkin, the Fantastic Four's postman?  LOL!

No Howard?

No! My favorite characters aren't there! What about Howard the Duck? Brother Voodoo? Night Nurse? White Rabbit? Frog-man? Forbrush Man? Captain Ultra? Doctor Bong? Fin Fang Foom? Mego Spidey?

So many fun characters to choose from. Heck I think even Howard got his own movie once. Or do we want to pretend that never happened?

Anyway, I'll buy 'em all. I'm finally running out of my Bela Lugosi stamps froma few years ago.

Howard was so ahead of his time.  Remember Dr. Bong?

hey milfy...

were you too busy watching Weeds again to check the last post???

dougieonline's picture
yeah seekshelter

that was the problem, milfy was "watching" weeds.....

It's about time for the UK postal service to announce that the queens face is gonna be replaced with a christmas tree, a snowflake, and a robin, just like every run to the holiday season. They should have hologram stamps where the queen morphs into other people, or power rangers!

Oh yeah,

As Jenny said, no Wolverine?

I may have the wrong cover, but no wolvie...

And well done to frosty the snowman, who thinks snowballs may defeat Magneto even if laser eye beams and mind control do not work, even though he has crap aim...

Angel

Snowballs? What about that rocket launcher that Angel's packing?

has anyone ever tried to beat magneto

with another magnet with the opposite polarization or is he able to produce north and south??

Mitch's picture
He's not a magnet

He has no poles. He CONTROLS the magnetic FIELDS. Get with the program, son!

seekshelter's picture
i know that HE is not a magnet

i was wondering if he were to pick up two pieces of metal and try to ram them together, could he fix it so that they are both magnetic north so that they would actually repel?? and if someone were aware of him having to choose which pole to use, could they use a series of magnets to counteract or hinder what he is trying to do???

Whats with

Elektra being on the list and no Daredevil. Am I the only one greatly impressed with the directors cut of that movie. That charecter so deserves a stamp over electra. Why not Storm instead of Spider women, ohh yeah Halle Berry already screwed her up.

He's not a magnet He has no poles

Although I always thought eventually X-Men would be the name of a transexual porn movie, I think we have a new contender, Magneto and his Pole

Wrong X-Men #1

I think they are talking about this one.

Either way...

I'm surprised they're not using more "classic" characters and pairing them up with their first appearance covers, like Amazing Fantasy, etc. That would be neat.

I want my own stamp!

I had my own comic last year. He was called Onion:
