"Moon Knight".
Ok, I'm not sure what that conjures up in the old brain factory for you, but for me, it makes me think, "lame 80's Batman knock off".
Now, I admit that I've got a lot of catching up to do when it comes to back issues and comic book history. I've only been working at the comic book shop since last summer, and I've caught up as much as I can, in addition to reading pretty much everything that comes out each week.
so, when I heard there was a new Moon Knight series coming out, I kind of rolled my eyes.
But when issue #1 hit the store yesterday, man... it is so AWESOME.
From page one, we get a kick-ass narration from Moon Knight himself, telling us how he's not like other super heroes.
We get a "night in the life" of Moon Knight.
The issue builds to a twist that is so exciting, I'm not going to spoil it, but this is going to be a fascinating run.
The artwork by David Finch (Penciler) Danny Miki (Inker) and Frank D'armata (colourist) is so outstanding. It lives and breaths grimy underworld.
The writer, Charlie Huston is a writer of crime fiction, and NOT a comic book writer. He brings a fresh, interesting approach to what could have been a totally lame book.
I highly recommend this book, and I'd even go so far as to say that it's so good, Batman fans might want to read this to see how much better the Batman books could be.
