Horton Hears a "Hell, Yeah!"

Now THIS is what I'm talking about!  FINALLY, a studio gets it right.

Just the other day we hear that Jim Carrey and Steve Carell are supplying the voices for Fox's CGI-animated Horton Hears a Who, animated by Blue Sky Studios.

Now, USA Today breaks out the first picture from the film, and I am just BLOWN away by the sheer awesomeness of it.  Feast your eyes on the Carell's character, the Mayor of Whoville...

This is how a Dr. Seuss movie should look... not like that overblown Grinch or that scary John Wayne Gacy Cat in the Hat movie.

Now I can only pray that they just do the story as it is and don't concoct some cockamamie "back story" like they've done with the previously-mentioned abominations.

Hell, Yeah!

I LOVE Blue Sky Studios. They're work on Robots was phenomenal and totally overlooked.

that does look pretty good

even though they all look like stretched out cats. however, all of these stories can be told within a few minutes. while we may want a better story, its more than likely just gonna be a lot of fluff and a lot of horrible rhyming written by people who normally don't write that sort of thing. if they take out the rhyming it might help the story telling. i would rather have seen one movie that tied together a bunch of the seuess books. the one short version of the Lorax that came out way back when was awesome. it just told the story that everyone loved without trying to put in faux seussiness.

Hurray for Bluesky Studios

You're right Druuna, Robots was amazing, and this is monitor-meltingly good.

Backstory

Regarding Seekshelter's comments... there is backstory, and then there is backstory.  The story of Horton is rich enough that they could pad out the film in keeping with the original story, expanding on how the rest of the animals react to Horton's hearing of the Who, and Whoville itself, etc.

Then you have the pointless backstory of the Grinch, that just HAD to go and show why he's so Grinchy (can't anyone just be mean for the sake of being mean?) and the one in the Cat in the Hat with Alec Baldwin that added nothing to the original other than extra minutes to pad out the story.

I'm glad somebody else like's it. The story was fairly decent, had a lot of heart, but the animation work was SUPERB, especially the way they animate "Tim" the gatekeeper... watch the way he takes the key and pretends to open the door for Rodney. He moves like a puppet even though at the end, you see he's got little legs and feet. I love it!

Okay, yes.... I just watched it again last night. Can I help it? There's always new stuff to pick up on each time!

No way

I'm SO glad this will not be stop motion... 'cos then Tim Burton would get his greasy mitts all over it.
