NBC's Heroes has become the first freshman show of the fall season to get picked up for the full season, says the Hollywood Reporter.
The ratings have been huge for the show, with Lost-like breakout numbers. In its first two airings, Heroes has averaged 13.5 million viewers and a 5.7 rating/14 share among adults 18-49, ranking as the No. 1 new series among adults 18-49, easily winning its Monday night 9pm time-slot.
This just goes to show you what a massive marketing campaign, an interesting concept, and lifting some key elements from Lost will get you... an order of 9 more episodes to round out the 22-episode season, which should make series' creator and executive producer Tim Kring very happy. Expect him to become the newest wunderkind following in the footsteps of Joss Whedon and J.J. Abrams.
" 'Heroes' has delivered exceptional ratings since its premiere, and we're even more impressed with the quality of the upcoming episodes," NBC Entertainment president Kevin Reilly said. "The best is yet to come over the course of a full season with this newest drama sensation."
I certainly hope so, because the jury is still out on this show for me. Although the success of the show does give me some hope that perhaps NBC Universal, which owns the Sci Fi Channel, might focus a little more attention on Battlestar Galactica. Perhaps.
