Oh my God! Weren't we JUST talking about Mr. Peabody and Sherman the other day? We were! Or, I was, at least, and that's all that matters.
Well, I wake up today, hit the trade sites, and lo and behold, I find out that DreamWorks Animation will be producing a CGI feature film of Jay Ward's famous "dog and his boy" duo and their adventures in the WABAC machine.
The Hollywood Reporter says that Rob Minkoff, he of Lion King and Stuart Little fame, is set to direct the film, after developing the pitch and presenting it to DreamWorks with producing partner Jason Clark.
Apparently Katzenberg over at DWA pushed hard for Minkoff, seeing Lion King dollar signs in his eyes, I'm sure. Personally, I've always thought the Lion King was overrated (and a complete rip-off of Kimba the White Lion), but I did love Stuart Little, although Stuart Little 2 was horrible. So for me, the jury is still out on Minkoff.
Bill Scott and Walter Tetley, who provided the voices for Mr. Peabody and Sherman, respectively, both have since passed on to the great WABAC machine in the sky, so I'll be curious to see who they find to replace such distinctive voices.
And the puns... they MUST keep the PUNS!
