Writer, animator, and illustrator Mike Dougherty, who with writing partner Dan Harris, gave us such screenplays as Superman Returns and X2: X-Men United, has gone it alone to write and direct Trick 'R Treat, a horror film to be released next October, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Dougherty, who was actually born on Halloween, apparently has a thing for all things spooky, horrific, and occult. Go figure. He actually wrote Trick 'R Treat before he partnered with Harris, and it was originally set to be produced by Regency Pictures with Stan Winston directing.
But, giving us a glimpse into how the gears of the Hollywood machine work, and how deals are made, Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. (Superman Returns) will finance the film and Bryan Singer will be producing, with Dougherty in the director's chair.
The film is comprised of four intertwining stories that take place on Halloween with such characters like the staid high school principal who is a Halloween serial killer, a college-age virgin seeking that "special guy," a woman who hates dressing up for Halloween and whose husband is obsessed with the holiday, and a group of young teens who pull a cruel prank.
Sounds like Anytown, USA these days. But of course, expect to see shooting in Vancouver instead.
