'Doc Hollywood' on Wheels? HA. HA.

Hey Samantha the Cheerleader here throwing my hat into the ring about this whole Cars fiasco.  I can't believe I am not reading more about one particular contraversial aspect of this cartoon.  Cars is an obvious rip off of Doc Hollywood from nuts to bolts!

From the imdb.com.  Here is the synopsis of Doc Hollywood:

Benjamin Stone is a young doctor driving to L.A where he was offered a new job as a plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills. He gets off the highway to avoid a traffic jam, but gets lost and ends up crashing into a fence in the small town of Grady. He is sentenced to 32 hrs of community service at the local hospital. All he wants is to serve the sentence and get moving, but gradually the locals become attached to the new doctor, and he falls for the pretty ambulance driver, Lou. Will he leave?

And here is the plot synopsis of Cars:

Lightning McQueen is a hotshot race car driving to L.A where he he has a big career boosting race ahead of him. He gets off the highway to avoid a traffic jam, but gets lost and ends up crashing into a fence in the small town of Radiator Springs. He is sentenced to 32 hrs of community service at the auto body shop. All he wants is to serve the sentence and get moving, but gradually the locals become attached to the new hot shot, and he falls for the pretty Porschae, Sally. Will he leave?

And like every character in Doc Hollywood has some stupid counterpart in Cars.  The Doc Hogue in Doc Hollywood could be the Police Chief or whatever he is.  Then there's the Larry the Cable Guy character.  I liked this dumb hick more when he was played by Woody Harrelson in Doc Hollywood.

I guess it's true that Hollywood really has run out of ideas.

but...

Cars has George Carlin as a hippy car, and Cheech Marin as a chicano car...

Seriously, it's like they took Doc Holliday and made it BETTER.

I KNEW it sounded familiar!

Nice work Sam!  Looks like Daddy's tuition money was well-spent after all.

its a clone movie

will cars or i mean disney get sued becuz they ripped off doc hollwoodss plot almost to the letter, or did they buy the rights to that movie before they even made cars. dont get me wrong i liked cars a lot maybe becuz i am an animation student anyways i thought it was a gud movie to bad i saw doc hollyood years before so cars was no surprise, however i loved the gang of tuner cars, haha the one tuner had a rack of like nine spoilers in the back it was a great gag

Seriously disappointing

I'm incredibly disappointed in Pixar with 'Cars'. I went in almost completely blind with no real expectations, then I realized halfway through that seeing a movie blind doesn't matter when it's entirely predictable. I've worked in animation for years, so I definitely understand the process of creating an animated piece. Pixar does amazing work (animation AND story), but I won't cut them any slack, they are much smarter than this film.

And it IS a ripoff of 'Doc Hollywood', lots of studios steal plots from older films that younger generations haven't seen, that's not surprising. I'm surprised to see Pixar doing it so soon.

That bad?

Wasn't Bug's Life more or less a remake of The Seven Samurai? Is this borrowing of themes more obvious in Cars?

I usually love Pixar films, but I have not seen Cars yet. I'm a little worried now that it's getting some negative responses.

A slight difference...

A Bug's Life was more of an homage to Seven Samurai... there were about 3 or 4 different movies that came together to form a new story in that one, whereas Cars is really just Doc Hollywood with cars.  Same story, same movie.

Huh?

You mean Doc Hollywood won the Piston Cup too?  Lasseter is a cheat!!

I think there was a South Park Episode that covered this sort of

thing...

"Simpson's Did IT!"
