About a month ago, I told you that Outlander, an epic sci-fi take of the Beowulf legend, was going into production soon. This was the film directed by Howard McCain from his own screenplay, where Kainin, a humanoid alien crashlands on Earth circa 500 A.D. in a Viking town, unknowingly bringing with him a horrific alien stowaway, who will soon give birth to an equally horrific offspring.
Now we have word from the Hollywood Reporter that Jim Caviezel (Passion of the Christ) will be starring in the film, presumably as Kainin. Sophia Myles (Underworld: Evolution) and Jack Huston (Neighborhood Watch) are also in negotiations to join the cast.
Back in August I said that it was as if McCain cribbed from Beowulf, Aliens, Predator, Alien vs. Predator, and The 13th Warrior, but I have to admit his take on it sounds awfully compelling... I mean, come on... aliens... Vikings... did I mention Vikings? And Jim Caviezel isn't so rough on the eyes, either. I also provided a link to production drawings, including pictures of the monster, and the full plot synopsis (spoilers!), so you can check that out if you're curious.
Production is still scheduled to begin in October, shooting in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
