So, the other day I told you all about the different kinds of Award shows we have up here for Canadian Film.
Today there's some news about the award show we have that celebrates Canadian Television.
The Geminis (Canada's version of the Emmy's) have held their Award Show Presentation in Toronto for the last 21 Years (holy cow!) so, CanWest Global (the Network that broadcasts the show) has decided to move the show West, to Vancouver, in an attempt to liven up the show.
From the Globe and Mail:
"The very least it can do is invigorate them," says Terry McEvoy, chair of the Western division of the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, which initiated the bid to hold the event elsewhere. McEvoy points to the Juno Awards as an example of a "moribund" show that was injected with renewed enthusiasm when it branched out across the country.
So, they're following the success of the Juno's as a reason for making this move.
(The Juno's are Canada's version of the Grammy's)
What they're not taking into account is the fact that the Canadian Music industry is THRIVING right now (Arcade Fire, Wolf Parade, Metric, Broken Social Scene, Death From Above... ETC.) and has been for a couple years. I doubt it has ANYTHING to do with the fact that the award show celebrating Canadian Music is now a traveling road show.
Canadian Television, on the other hand, is NOT thriving. If anything, it's circling the drain.
Feels a bit "cart before the horse".
