October 6th is not that far away, space cadets. That's right, Sci-Fi Channel's Battlestar Galactica Season 3 will start soon, Fridays at 9pm ET/PT.
I am SUCH a total fan of this show. My older kids like to watch it too, after I've put the younger one to bed. They've never seen the original show from the 70s that I grew up on, which I actually think is truly essential to achieve "oneness" with the modern update. But they still think it's cool, and can't understand why I love it so much. And they have no idea who Richard Hatch is, or why Mom giggles everytime he's on screen.
Now if they could only get Dirk Benedict to make a cameo.
But I digress... SciFiWire has some news about the show's upcoming 3rd season, with words from the show's executive producer, Ronald D. Moore. Moore has indicated that there will be at least one death amongst the cast of characters this year, telling the crowd at WorldCon in Anaheim over the weekend that "there's some changes in the air" and that "we're going to lose some people this year. Not all of our friends are going to make it all the way."
Oooooh! Who's it going to be? Adama? President Roslin? Tigh? Baltar?!?
He also said that the Galactica 2.5 DVD set that will be coming out will feature a "Director's Cut" of sorts of the episode Pegasus, which was the beginning of the end of the awesome second half to last season. Seriously. The new cut will be an extended version, with additional scenes running almost half as long as the original.
Plus, we've got the "webisodes" starting next week, September 5th, on the broadband Pulse network. I think this is a required thing now for science fiction. You've got to have the webisodes. The "pre-"episodes will set us up for the 3rd season, and while they say they are not required to understand the 3rd season, any self-respecting BSG-geek will be streaming them until the servers crash.
What I like most about the show is how it has adapted the overall plot structure of the original while still throwing in so many new things and completely eliminating the cheesy tone of the original. Like I said, for fans of the original, the update is such a joy.
Can't wait can't wait can't wait!
