Bat-Lesbo on the Way!

This story was originally assigned to resident DC-hater, Jenny from Canada.  She's all up and miffed because of how ungodly bad Infinite Crisis turned out, and I can't say I blame her.  But she's totally turning her back on the House of Kal-El and that just makes this Flixen madder'an a hornet in a tea jug!  So I really didn't want to see Jenny from Canada wasting everyone's precious time by bashing on DC's new high concept return of BATWOMAN.  So y'all, I am gonna totally bash it instead.

So the New York Times ran an article this weekend about how the big comic makers are trying to diversify their line up, right?  And the really big news was that Batwoman was coming back into the Bat Family, but after teasing headlines in the Superman One Year Later storyline and OH that big wonking appearance by Batwoman on that pretty pretty splash in the last issue of Infinite Crisis, it's not much of a surprise anymore.  Which kind of sucks, because I could write a whole lecture on how we never get any good surprises anymore.  But I'm gonna save that for when I write my glowing review of Lucas Black's performance in 3 Faster and 3 More Furious.

So right.  New Batwoman announced in an article about diversifying comic heroes.  Meh.  So what is so diverse about Batwoman?  Well she's a lesbian!  O NOES.  I am all for lesbians and gays and stuff, but that's about as edgy as Bonanza.  I read about this over on Newsarama where Dan Didio, DC's editor-in-chief, said that this new Batwoman lesbian was going to have a shared past with DC's OTHER lesbian, Renee Montoya.  I think she's a cop or something in Gotham.  It kind of cracked me up that the only two lesbians in the DC universe know each other, and probably touched each other's pink and stuff.

I am stoked that Batwoman is coming back, and I like the idea of a mainstream lesbian character, but gosh, why do they have to make such a big deal about it?  Won't it be something when gay and lesbian and other kind of characters pop up in comics and it's just not a big deal?  That would be something to celebrate!

What can we celebrate now?  Well chickie's got a wicked cool costume.

Oh, God.

There's got to be a "bat pole" joke in here somewhere... isn't there?  Something like "To the bat pole!" "Not on your life, mister!"

Or something?

At least she's going to be Batwoman and not "Luna" or something "moony" like that.

Like Batman...

...she won't have any superpowers, but she'll have one heck of a utility belt!
