A voice cast has been selected for Spike Jonze's (Being John Malkovich, Adaptation) film adaptation of children's classic story, Where the Wild Things Are. The voice cast includes: Benicio Del Toro; Paul Dano; Michael Berry Jr.; Tom Noonan; Catherine O'Hara; Forest Whitaker; and Michelle Williams.
The film will combine computerized effects and live-action puppetry, says Hollywood Reporter.
Catherine Keener will once again be collaborating with Spike Jonze, though it seems that she will not be a voice actor, according to IMDB.
Maurice Sendak's original story follows the imaginary adventures of Max, an angry youth in a wolf costume, as he visits giant forest monsters.
Spike Jonze is one of the two madmen who have superbly filmed a Charlie Kaufman script (I enjoyed George Clooney's Kaufman collaboration, but it was more straightforward than the Jonze and Gondry films), and it should be quite interesting to see how he treats this material.
Though Where the Wild Things Are easily stands as a lone story, it can also be grouped with two other Sendak books about children's nightmares, The Night Kitchen, and Outside Over There. So, if the film turns out to be fantastic and makes lots of money, it could likely lead to a Wild Things threesome (gnyuk gnyuk).
