Building Momentum
Having only recently launched this site, we are happy to let you know that we are at least showing up on the radar.
While comparing our site to the other big movie sites is premature, we do believe that the silent female online community has yet to leave their mark to get the advertisers attention. Here is a live Alexa graph that compares our site ranking to the big boys. We've got a long way to go, so help us by spreading the word.
We also began to do some relatively inexpensive advertising of the site in all of the big movie sites. Here are the ads that we are running currently. Kinda cheeky and fun. Hopefully they leave you wanting more.
What's This Flixens Thing?
"FLIXENS" LAUNCH NEW WEBSITE
What happens when a group of six self-proclaimed "girl geeks" meet up on a movie messageboard and decide there aren't enough women on it who share their love of all things cinema?
They build their own.
The group, led by research librarian Nina Kincaid, decided to call themselves "Flixens" and launch www.flixens.com. "It's definitely NOT a 'chick-flick' site," says Kincaid. "What we wanted to do was create a film news site and messageboard where girls who grew up say, watching monster movies and reading comic books, could hold their own against the geekiest of guys who typically dominate the boards."
"Statistics indicate that these girls are out there, but they tend to shy away from these boards because the guys usually go crazy at the first sign of the opposite sex. If you're the only woman on the board, you end up feeling like chum being thrown to the sharks. At the same time though, there are a lot of really nice geek guys out there too, who find it difficult to meet women who are into the same sorts of things. Flixens.com wants to be a 'safe harbor' for both genders to come together to discuss geeky stuff... And besides, if the boys don't behave, we'll sic Leather Lass on them!"
Leather Lass is one of the other Flixens, who also just happens to be a Los Angeles (formerly New York City) dominatrix. "It's true, we have a lot of different personalities and ages involved in the initial launch," explains Kincaid. "The youngest Flixen is Jenny, in her late teens, and then there's the Movie MILF, who's in her mid-thirties. Samantha is in college, and Zahra and I are in our mid-twenties. What we have in common though, is our love for movies; horror films, science fiction, action/adventure, you name it. And we're hoping to coax even more Flixens out of their geek shells!"
Web surfers may be wondering to themselves, "Leather Lass? Movie MILF?"
"That's right. And we're always looking for more Flixens! If someone out there is a geek girl and wants to join us, then she should start sending reviews to us. We have the capability to 'promote' readers to a more active role, as moderators, contributors, editors, etc., even turning them into their own cartoon avatar!"
Ultimately, the goal is to have a site that's a fun place to visit for women and men, where everyone can participate and contribute, and treat each other with respect. If we can accomplish that, I'll be a very happy Flixen!"
