A Week in Trailers

I love the previews for films, and I think that I might be addicted to watching them. Only last week, one of my stories was just about film trailers, but they are not always so well done, and for different reasons.

Ok, the first one is not really a trailer, but rather a short preview that was shown on the television program Entertainment Tonight, and is for the film The Departed, which is directed by Martin Scorsese. The information comes from JoBlo, and you can right click and save the video HERE.

A trailer was just added on the Yahoo Movies page! Click HERE!

The film itself has a few good actors starring in it, and Leonardo DiCaprio as well (ok, I'm just kidding, Leo's not a bad actor). Essentially, The Departed is a remake of a Hong Kong police thriller called Infernal Affairs, which I have seen and thought that it was quite good as well.

Question: Why is Martin Scorsese remaking this film? Martin Scorsese!

Answer: His past few films have been costly and were apparently not very successful. So, making a police thriller with some famous actors, using a formula and story that are known to work, will hopefully give the studio the financial success that is needed if Scorsese is to continue making films his way.

You can watch the film starting on October 6 of this year.

Next is Brian De Palma's The Black Dahlia, which is the story of a murder mystery taking place in Los Angeles in the 1940s. You can find the trailer for this film on the Yahoo Movies website.

I have not read the James Ellroy novel on which the film is based, but it looks to me as though they show too much in the trailer for this film. I also found that the trailer started off too slowly and conventionally, but after the first minute a really nice song starts to play and the images begin to jump out at you.

The Black Dahlia stars Josh Hartnett, Aaron Eckhart, Scarlett Johansson, Hilary Swank, and the gorgeous Mia Kirshner, and will be released on September 15 in North American cinemas. Hopefully Brian De Palma is coming back to the kind of filmmaking he is a master at doing, but for now I am not completely convinced (Josh Hartnett looks like wood).

The trailer for Darren Aranofsky's The Fountain was posted last Friday on the Apple Trailers page, and though it looks absolutely beautiful, I think that people should avoid watching it!

It shows too much! I have read and adored the graphic novel (which was written by Aranofsky), but they show too much in the trailer! Ok, there are still many wonderful elements they left out, thankfully, and if you really can't resist, then go ahead and watch the trailer. You will be treated to something beautiful. If you can wait, however, then you will be truly surprised in the cinema, which is a very difficult experience to have these days.

Unfortunately, it seems that the release date for The Fountain has been pushed yet again, from October 13 to November 22, though I can't find my reference for this anymore.

Looks like some cool films for the colder months...

...except for the goddamn delay between US and UK releases, we'll probably get these next April.

Oh, speaking of trailers, that ultra blurry trailer of Spiderman 3 that was leaked from ComicCon and then pulled from YouTube, I have a copy of it if anyone's interested.

How does it look?

Are there interesting scenes in that trailer? I would be curious to watch it, but we would have to find some way to post it on the internet. Or maybe I should stop watching previews where too much of the film is revealed!

You did well, seekshelter!

The visuals are very important to the story, and I believe that by showing so much in the trailer they might be taking away some of their power (at least this is what I think after having read the graphic novel).

Anf thanks a lot for that link, Dougie!! The montage looks fantastic, and besides the dimness of the recording, it really seems as if this is going to be the darkest Spider-Man film so far!
